Applying for new jobs can be challenging; every organization, and even every recruiter, seems to be looking for something different in applications. Here is some great advice directly from our recruiters to help your application stand out.
First, let's take a second to talk about cover letters. Cover letters can take a lot of time and effort to make, but do recruiters even look at them? As Val talks about in the video above, recruiting is a very fast-paced job, so the recruiters at KnowBe4 often don't have time for to read cover letters and don't find them very useful in qualifying candidates. Instead, consider investing more time in your resume. How do you stand out with just a resume? Let's go to Marcie with some tips for that.
Creating a great resume is a hard skill to master; there is a lot that goes into creating the perfect resume and advice can often be contradictory. One huge tip we can offer you is this: your resume should be different for every job you apply to because every job is looking for different skills and every recruiter will have different preferences. Marcie's advice in the video above is great for specifically creating a resume that will help you stand out to KnowBe4's recruiters. Now let's get into a little more detail using sales jobs as an example.
While the advice Shelby gives is directed towards sales, it is great advice for any position. Your resume should focus on what you achieved, not just what your daily tasks were. By focusing on achievements and quantifying everything you can, you will emphasize what level of skills you bring to the table. Did you surpass sales quota by at least 50% for 5 months in a row? Did you consistently deliver error-free code within your schedule? Did you manage 250 accounts with a 98% customer satisfaction rating? Recruiters will want to know about all of that! Quantify everything you did and show the value that you added to the organization. That will help you break through the clutter of other resumes.
Follow the advice from our recruiters to make sure you're putting your best foot forward and showing our recruiters and hiring managers why you will be a good fit for a job at KnowBe4.
