KnowBe4 Supports National Cyber Security Awareness Month -- Trains families how to avoid social engineering traps at no cost until December 31, 2015.
(Tampa Bay, FL) October 21, 2015 -- With Cyber Security Awareness Month coming to a close, KnowBe4 is encouraging home computer users and IT alike to keep security top of mind by making its home user course available at no charge through the end of December, 2015. Going into the holidays, employees tend to get considerably more stressed which results in a more distracted computer user.
A stressed or rushed employee and a devious hacker can create a perfect storm. The fallout from this scenario often results in overburdened IT staff tasked with even more work to resolve malware infections resulting from a user’s poor cyber security habits.
“Now is definitely not the time to relax your guard,” said Stu Sjouwerman, CEO of KnowBe4. “Going into the holiday season, hackers and cyber crooks are scouting for every available opportunity to exploit human weaknesses. With stressed out users, we think IT could use a little extra support. IT managers are often called by their friends and family to troubleshoot issues and we wanted to help them out by giving them a way to manage this problem.”
This years theme for National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is “Our Shared Responsibility”. The FBI has noted it is the perfect time to reflect on the universe of cyber threats and for organizations to do their part to protect against these threats. In response to this, KnowBe4 is giving away the Kevin Mitnick Home Internet Security Course through a link on their website. The password is Knowbe4. IT Managers can pass along the link to as many of their family and friends as they like. The only caveat is the training expires December 31st.
Sjouwerman also noted, “Some users might feel they are now better protected with the implementation of chip and pin credit and debit cards and get a bit lax with how they handle their personal cards or information. On the other hand, not everyone has them and this technology has been around in Europe since 2003, giving hackers plenty of time to figure out a way around it.”
